Planning Your Gaming Strategy for 2025

Share Post:

As we look back on 2024, it’s clear that it has been a standout year for gaming performance in Queensland Clubs and pubs. Metered Win has shown consistent growth across the state, with every LGA reporting positive results. Many venues have kept up with game and machine updates and maintained some level of promotional support for gaming, which has contributed to this success. However, some venues have been cruising along, enjoying the favourable conditions—an approach that may not fare as well in 2025.

While I anticipate continued growth in 2025, it’s important to remember that we will be comparing our results to a very strong 2024. Without strategic planning, maintaining growth might prove to be a tougher challenge.

Let’s reflect for a moment. In 2024, we were comparing our performance to a relatively stagnant 2023, which had minimal growth compared to 2022, particularly from April onwards. The graph here clearly illustrates the flatline growth we experienced in 2023. By contrast, 2024’s growth looks impressive, but much of it was achieved by default.

To set yourself up for success in 2025, here are key considerations for your gaming strategy:

1. Build a Strong 2025 Capex Budget

  • Allocate funds for new machines, game conversions, and floor upgrades. Investing in your gaming floor will ensure you stay competitive.

2. Plan for Aristocrat’s New Baron Cabinet

  • Aristocrat is set to release its new Baron cabinet in 2025. With their game design focus shifting to this machine, having funds ready to secure it is essential. While Mars X will still be supported, the best games will be designed for the new machine.

3. Stay Updated with the Latest Machine Cabinets

  • Ensure you have the newest cabinets from all major manufacturers:
     – Aristocrat’s Baron
     – IGT’s Peak
    – Light & Wonder’s Kascada
    – Ainsworth’s A-Star
    – Konami’s Dimension

This gives you the fastest move to new games when they are available through conversions.

4. Keep Your Games Current

  • Regularly try out new game releases and actively promote them to your customers. Use targeted marketing communications to highlight exciting new game features and keep players engaged.

5. Avoid Over-Investing in Old Machines

  • Instead of spending on costly repairs for outdated machines, reposition them to less prominent areas of your gaming floor. Focus your prime positions on newer machines and games to maximise performance.

6. Optimise Your Gaming Floor

  • If budget constraints limit new machine purchases, consider a project to rearrange your gaming floor. Strategic placement of machines can improve customer experience and boost overall performance.

Proactive Planning for 2025

With 2025’s results being measured against a strong 2024, now is the time to be proactive and strategic. By investing in the latest technology, refreshing your gaming floor, and keeping your games relevant, you’ll be better positioned to continue delivering strong results.
