5 Stars For The Surf Club Mooloolaba

Chef Yu Xiang Gu has been an Australian citizen for many years, initially gaining his commercial cooking qualifications in Perth.  One of his early roles in Australia was at the renowned Sheraton Towers in Melbourne where he worked in the famous Melba Brasserie’s kitchen.  During this time he continued his education gaining a Diploma of Hospitality Management.

From 1999, Gu spent 8 years in various roles at the prestigious Park Hyatt Melbourne becoming Executive Sous Chef after spending a year at the Grand Hyatt in Beijing. In 2008 Gu was tasked with opening the Hilton Beijing Wangfujing Hotel as Executive Chef in preparation for the Olympics. By this time Gu had gained a reputation as one of China’s leading 5 star chefs.  Other roles Gu has held include of F&B for Taiyuan Kempinski Hotel (first international 5 star Hotel located in China’s Shanxi Province), Executive Chef tasked with opening a new Hilton in Shenzhen, Executive Director of Culinary at the Luxury Castel Hotel Group in Xinghai (Asia’s largest city) and Executive Chef for the opening of the Hilton Shenzhen Futian.

Returning to Australia in 2021, Gu and his family are enjoying living on their property on the Sunshine Coast. Gu is personally looking forward to working with the team at Mooloolaba Surf Club to make it the most renowned dining Club in Queensland.
