A Healthy Employee is a Safe Employee

Share Post:

We often focus on the safety of our employees, which is super important but do we place as much emphasis on the health of our employees? Not just preventing illness or ensuring hygiene controls are in place and being used, but also their mental, emotional and physical health. And oh boy, has the last 18 months been a test of everyone’s mental health!

I’m a big believer that a healthy and well employee is a safe one. Why? Because if the person values their health and their employee actively values and promotes their health, they are less likely to engage in workplace behaviours that compromise their safety.

So the big question is – what do you do to encourage or enhance your worker’s overall health?

September is a busy month of health awareness and fund raising activities. The big events are R U OK Day (Sept 9), International Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, Women’s Health Week and Stroke Week. Now is the time to organise any fundraising and/or awareness resources, programs, workshops or talks for your staff and even your patrons.

I have developed a Staff Wellbeing Framework that provides guidance and resources on implementing a venue specific program. The Framework can be easily adapted to your operations and any external providers of health and mental health that you work with. This framework is available through request to michelle@dws.net.au.
