In the heart of the Kallangur community at the Norths Leagues & Services Club Kallangur, amidst the hustle and bustle of young families and cafe’ patrons alike, you’ll find Hossein Moshtagi, affectionately known as ‘Hoss’ by his team, the recipient of Queensland’s 2024 Club Chef of the Year.

Hoss’s culinary adventure commenced in Iran, where surprisingly, he never stepped foot into a kitchen. It was only when he migrated to New Zealand in 1996 that he discovered his passion for food.

Despite the language barrier, he plunged into the bustling restaurant scene, simultaneously mastering the art of cooking and the English language.
After a stint in Sydney, fate led Hoss back to New Zealand, where an old friend beckoned him to join the Jellyfish crew in Brisbane. Little did he know, Hoss would call Brisbane home for many more years, marking the beginning of his culinary legacy in Queensland.

His move to Brisbane proved fortuitous. In 2017 he found himself at home with the QCM Group with The Lion Richlands team, revitalising menus and elevating dining experiences, offering something much more sophisticated than a menu filled with the stock standardC’lub Classics.’

Under Hoss’ leadership, The Lion Richlands set out to establish their venue as one of the leading and busiest dining venues in the Queensland Club sector…and boy did they succeed!

Following his experience at The Lion Richlands, Hoss made the move to another QCM Group Club venue: North Leagues & Services Club, where he oversaw the birth of The Precinct, a revolutionary multi-cuisine dining space, yet again, redefining Club dining in Queensland. This innovative concept not only expanded culinary horizons but also fostered creativity and exploration among his team and apprentices.

His winning streak culminated in the 2024 Club Chef of the Year title, a testament to his culinary prowess and innovative spirit. His winning dishes, from the intricate Crab and Prawn Soufflé to the succulent Asian-inspired pork tenderloin, showcase his mastery of flavours and techniques.

Reflecting on his journey, Hoss attributes his culinary acumen to his mother’s influence, proving the adage that behind every great Chef is a Mother who is a brilliant cook!

As proud sponsors of Clubs Queensland’s Club Chef of the Year, CTA Training and DWS Hospitality Specialists extend heartfelt congratulations to Hoss and the entire QCM team.
