Parliamentary Catering Services is a service area within the Property and Facility Services division of the Parliamentary Service in Brisbane and provides cost effective catering services for Members of Parliament, official guests, staff of the Parliamentary Service and approved guests.
The Parliamentary complex has a range of dining and function facilities which are used extensively throughout the year. Food and beverage services are delivered via a range of dedicated dining and bar facilities and dedicated function facilities in venues within the Parliamentary precinct.
Catering Services operates in a semi-commercial environment within the public sector.
About the role
The Parliamentary Service is seeking applications for an experienced Catering Supervisor with excellent “front of house skills” to work in a variety of dining and function outlets within the Parliamentary Precinct in Brisbane and ensure the consistent delivery of quality services.
Along with the prestige of this position comes significant responsibility to meet the discerning needs of Parliamentary guests, visiting dignitaries, and government departments.
The successful candidate will answer directly to the Senior Catering Supervisor and will be responsible for the direct supervision up to 7 full time staff and up to 40+ casual employees (for large functions).
It is a requirement of the role to have full availability across day and afternoon shifts and the successful applicant will be required to work hours outside of normal business hours, on weekends and public holidays. Overtime including some overtime on weekends may also be required.
Skills & experience
To secure this position, the suitable candidate will possess the following:
- Experience in a 5-star catering/hospitality environment including the supervision and co-ordination of staff is essential.
- Well-developed oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated supervisory and interpersonal skills.
- Sound knowledge of general catering practices including food preparation, presentation and storage, client service and inventory control.
- Sound knowledge of safety and hygiene practices.
- Demonstrated ability in the use of various computer systems and technology including the internet, email, word-processing, spreadsheets and point-of-sale equipment or the ability to become competent in the use of these systems within a reasonable period of time.
- Sound knowledge of contemporary human resource policy and practice.
Roles & responsibilities
The key roles and responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
- Supervise the day-to-day operations of a variety of food and beverage trading areas (Dining and Function rooms, Bars, etc).
- Liaise with Senior Catering Supervisor, Function Co-ordinators and the Executive Chef in the delivery of services in trading areas.
- Undertake daily reconciliation of cash registers.
- Undertake the ordering of prepared items from internal stores and carry out stocktakes.
- Assist with the training of new employees.
- Provide leadership, support and training to other Catering Services staff.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Catering Services staff and with other staff of the Parliamentary Service.
