Optimising the Gaming Floor: Small Tweaks with Big Impact

Share Post:

Over the years, I’ve picked up a few valuable strategies to make gaming floors as comfortable and appealing as possible for patrons. Here are some tips to enhance your patrons gaming experience that go beyond just selecting a quality gaming stool.

1. Configure Machines in Banks of 3

The ideal arrangement for gaming machines is in banks of three (or five for larger rooms). These can be arranged in various configurations, but “H-banks” and “T-banks” work best if space permits. An H-bank features three machines back-to-back (six total), with an additional three at each end to form an “H” shape. A T-bank has three machines on one end only. These setups provide patrons with more “end seats,” which many prefer for added personal space, enhancing their comfort and experience.

2. Place Less Popular Games in the Centre

In these configurations, the centre position is often the least favoured by players. Placing less popular games in these spots, while positioning high-demand games on the ends, maximises engagement and revenue. This approach ensures the more popular games are played more frequently, enhance player satisfaction, and keep the gaming room dynamic.

3. Do Players Naturally Turn Right? Retail theory suggests patrons may instinctively turn right upon entering a room. While evidence in gaming settings is limited, it’s still wise to position top attractions where they’re clearly visible, regardless of direction. Setting up “must-see” games to draw players’ attention can guide them through the space effectively.

4. Ensure Comfortable Traffic Flow
Wide aisles are key for easy navigation on the gaming floor. Allow ample space between machine banks to ensure a comfortable, natural path for players, avoiding obstacles like pull-up banners and equipment that could block access.

5. Position Link and End-of-Bank Signage Thoughtfully
Link signage should be at eye level and strategically placed for maximum visibility as players enter the gaming room. Consider the money invested in these signs—they’re there to advertise the games. End-of-bank signs, meanwhile, add visual interest without impeding flow, but should focus on gaming promotions.

With these layout tips, you can create a gaming floor that’s inviting, functional, and designed to boost engagement and enjoyment.
