Racing to the Finish Line: New greyhound facility on track to be a runaway success!

Share Post:

Excitement is building and tails are wagging for the early-2025 grand opening of The Q a world-class greyhound racing facility in Purga, Ipswich, and the new home of the Queensland Greyhound Racing Club (QGRC), a new entity which merged Brisbane Greyhound Racing Club and Ipswich Greyhound Racing Club.

The brand-new centre will be a game changer for the industry and assist the local economy, opening the door to hosting some of the world’s prestigious races and provide a paws-itively thrilling experience for greyhound enthusiasts and the local community.
With over 22,747m3 of earthworks to date, the new facility is rapidly taking shape with all concrete floors and structural steel on the grandstand building completed and roofing underway. The designated kids play area is now entering the next phase of development, following a trend in the Clubs industry of adding or upgrading kids indoor play areas to attract younger families, such as the new facilities at Brothers Leagues Club Townsville and Toowoomba City Golf Club.

In addition to the state-of the art racetracks, the new venue is a community Club with viewing and dining facilities that will provide patrons with panoramic views across all tracks, as well as entertainment and gaming facilities.

“As with any major project there have been a few unexpected twists along the way, but nothing we couldn’t handle. Our teams are working tirelessly to ensure everything is completed to the highest standards, and we’re confident this will set a new benchmark for greyhound racing facilities worldwide.”

Luke Gatehouse, Executive Manager – Media, Partnerships and Projects

DWS Hospitality Consultants have been supporting the project by developing a Feasibility Study for the new community Club development, organising Liquor and Gaming Community Impact Statements, and assisting QGRC with gaming and liquor submissions with the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation (OLGR).

Albion Park and Ipswich racing activity is set to transition to The Q’s three racetracks early in 2025.
