What Venues Need to Know about the QLD Digital Drivers Licence

Share Post:

Implications for AML/CTF identification capturing

In Queensland, the digital Drivers Licence was released by the Department of Transport at the start of November 2023. The digital licence is recognised by AUSTRAC as a valid form of photographic ID to verify a customer’s identification as long as it is current.

In order to document the person’s ID for Know Your Customer and payout purposes, you need to ask the patron to share the KYC information from their digital ID as a pdf. The information required is:

  • Full name
  • Residential address
  • Date of birth
  • The sharing bundle is to be “Share my Drivers Licence”

The information can be shared from their App via the Share button and can be sent via text or email to the venue’s contact number / address. Ensure the right number and email address are communicated to your staff organising pay outs.

As with any customer identification information, this is to be held securely to protect privacy and data of customers as per the Privacy Act requirements.

The same rules for payouts apply – no ID, no payout until it is produced.

PLEASE NOTE:
There is a step required to be able to verify the pdf. This only needs to be done once. The steps can be found on the TMR website, or in our easy to follow, visual steps guide here.

Discrepancies with the digital ID are treated the same way as a false or tampered physical ID.

PLEASE NOTE that you are not allowed to confiscate their mobile phone and should not need to touch their phone for any reason.

If you have any questions about the process around the new Digital Licence in QLD, please do not hesitate to contact DWS’ Work Health, Safety & Compliance Advisor, Michelle Bates via email at michelle@dws.net.au or mobile on 0401 014 619.
